Mysore/Mysuru: The Sixteenth Annual Get-together of Jayalakshmi Kodava Association, Mysuru, was held on Oct. 24 at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha in Jayalakshmipuram.
The function began with invocation by Macharanda Uthappa. Pattada Jaikumar welcomed. Association President Ballyanda P. Uthappa presided.
Condolences were offered to 15 departed members during the last two years.
The following is the new team: Ballyanda P. Uthappa – President, Pandiyanda Girish – Vice-President, Jammada Ganesh Ayanna – Secretary, Muckkatira A. Somaiah – Treasurer; Committee Members: Biddanda U. Ganapathy, Pandiyanda Anil Cariappa, Konganda Thimmaiah, Pattada Jaikumar, Dr. Thelapanda Kalappa, Machanda Reshma Beliappa, Muruvanda Indira Ganapathy, Codanda Chitra Medappa and Kodira Jyothi Poonacha. Mallangada Swetha Jayaprakash, Ajjinikanda Manish Pemmaiah and Chonira Cariappa – Co-opted into the Committee.
Merit scholarship was awarded to the following children of Association members: Pandiyanda Neha Dechamma (daughter of Pandiyanda Savitha and Girish) for Gold Medal in 2020 in MSc Psychology from Manipal University; Thelapanda Bopanna Kalappa (son of Rachana and Dr. Kalappa) for scoring 88% in X KSEEB; Muruvanda Aahan Ponnappa (son of late Ganesh and Darshana) for scoring 86% in X CBSE.
Thelapanda Kalappa Bopanna was specially recognised for his achievements in Athletics at State and National-Level. He was first in 800 meters, 2 kms and third in National Juniors held at Assam in 2021; First place in 800 mts South Zone Junior 2021 clocking a new meet record of 56.21 seconds.
Treasurer Muckatira Somaiah presented the accounts for the year 2020-2021.
Muruvanda Indira Ganapathy conducted some unique games and activities for the members. Early bird award went to Pandanda Poonacha; well-dressed lady prize to Codanda Usha Bopaiah; most colourfully dressed men award to Dr. Ajjikuttira Dillon Devaiah and Kuttetira Roy; Rapunzel lady in the hall went to Kodandera Sunitha; Lady carrying lipstick in hand bag went to Anjaparavanda Radha Kunjappa.
The following members were honoured for their achievements:
1. Dr. Kalyatanda Gautham Subaiah, son of late Dr. K.B. Subbaiah and Swajie Subbaiah, who was the recipient of the Prestigious International Educator of the Year 2020 Award. He was chosen among the 3000-odd faculty pool in Florida University.
2. Dr. Malavanda Latha Muthanna, who has written two books, “Lopamudra’s Daughter” her mother’s biography and “War the Ugly Mistress.” Dr. Latha, a Clinical Cardiologist and Diabetologist, also volunteered to treat Covid patients with her Telemedicine & Telephonic support during the pandemic.
3. Dr. Chonira Vikas Kariappa, son of C.T. Kariappa and Geetha Kariappa, for bagging CPIM Cain Fellowship Award for 2021 from Texas A&M University, USA, for his creation of Engineered Protein Antibodies against Covid-19.
4. Jammada Ganesh Ayanna, son of late J.M. Poonacha and Gangumani, for Philanthropy and effectively running the first ever private totally free Covid Hospital in Gonikoppal, Kodagu.
Pandiyanda Savitha Girish compered. Pandiyanda Anil Cariappa proposed a vote of thanks.
