Mysore/Mysuru: Even as news of the Karnataka High Court permitting bike taxi services went viral yesterday, another video has surfaced showing auto drivers allegedly assaulting a Rapido bike passenger in Mysuru.
The video is now widely circulating on social media.
The incident took place at Mysuru City Railway Station, where a 19-year-old youth had booked a Rapido bike to leave the premises. Local auto drivers allegedly objected to this and attacked him. The youth managed to record the assault on his mobile phone.
The victim’s sister shared details of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that her brother was assaulted simply for opting for a Rapido bike. She uploaded the video and urged the Mysuru Police to take strict action against the auto drivers involved.
In her post, she wrote: “Last night, around 11 pm at Mysuru City Railway Station, my 19-year-old brother was beaten up by some auto drivers for booking a Rapido bike. Since the bike taxi is a cheaper option, he chose it. However, the auto drivers insisted that he travel only in their autos. They assaulted the Rapido rider and hurled abuses at my brother. When he questioned them, they attacked him as well. My brother informed the Police, but the officers who intervened advised a compromise instead of taking action.”
She added that she usually refrains from posting such incidents on social media but felt compelled to speak out after witnessing how helpless an ordinary citizen can be in such situations. “I felt deeply disturbed, and there was nothing I could do,” she wrote.
The post tagged the Karnataka Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police, the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar, seeking their intervention.
