Mysore/Mysuru: Brahmavidya, Mysuru, in association with Veena Visweswaran International Foundation, USA, DVG Balaga Pratishtana, Kanchana Srilakshminarayana Musical Academy Trust, Ursu Community, Parampare, Kala Sandesha Pratishtana, Srimatanga Samskrutika Samajika Academy Trust, Srividya Pratishtana and various national and international arts associations, have organised Indian Musicology Day celebrations at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Rama-krishnanagar on June 8 and 9.
May 9 is declared as the Indian Musicology Day marking the birth anniversary of musicologist Padma Shri Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. R. Sathyanarayana and the event could not be held last month due to Assembly polls.
Addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan yesterday, Brahmavidya Convenor and Musicologist Dr. R.S. Nanda-kumar said the celebrations will feature award presentation, book release and music festival.
June 8 (5.30 pm): Famous Veena Exponent and Limca Book of Records holder Madhukaram Prashanth Iyengar will give a Veena Concert based on compositions of R. Sathyanarayana and Karnatak Music composers of Mysuru.
7 pm: KR MLA T.S. Srivatsa will formally inaugurate the celebrations. Veena maestro Dr. R. Visweswaran will preside.
On the occasion, ‘Sahityasoori Award’ will be conferred on senior scholar Dr. T.V. Venkatachala Sastry, ‘Shastrasoori Award’ on Dr. Gian Giuseppe Filippi of Italy and ‘Dr. Sathyanarayana Commemorative Award’ on Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy (Karnatak Violin), Vid. Madhukaram Prashanth Iyengar (Veena and Vaggeyakara) and Vid. Sringeri H.S. Nagaraj (Karnatak Music).
During the deliberations, two books on Indian Music will be released — ‘Sri Kamalamba Jayati’ by Dr. R. Visweswaran and ‘Arohini – A compilation of Music and Dance articles’ by Vidu. Kanchana Rohini Subbarathnam.
June 9 (6 pm): Vocal Concert by Vidwan Sringeri H.S. Nagaraj accompanied by Vid. Dr. Thandavamurthy on violin and Vid. P.S. Sridhar on mridanga.
Vocal Concert by Dr. R. Vis-weswaran accompanied by Vidu. Dr. Veena Suresh on violin and Vid. G.S. Ramanujam on mridanga. Singer Sriharsha, Programme Convenor Dr. S. Karthik and M.S. Kaustub were present at the press meet.
