BCCI Women’s U23 T20 Challenger Series: India Green wins title

October 9, 2018

R.N. Chaudhari’s four wickets haul and Sushree Dibyadarshini’s three-for-ten guide India Green to a comprehensive win in the final of BCCI U-23 T20 Challenger Trophy against India Blue by eight wickets in the tie played at the SDNR Wadiyar Grounds here yesterday.

India Blue won the toss and chose to bat first. But their decision was not fruitful as they lost their opener and captain Devika Vaidya in the 1st over. Vaidya was the star in her team’s win in the previous two matches but in the final, she went for a duck.

Priya Punia and Anjali Singh started to build the partnership and both added 31 runs. Before they could move further, Chaudhari picked up Anjali Singh and handed over the second breakthrough to her team. Ayushi Soni followed her, after scoring only 1.

Middle-order couldn’t stay longer at the crease as the wickets started falling at regular intervals. Monica Patel tried her best to score big but didn’t get any support from the other batters. She was dismissed after scoring 19 off 15 with 3 fours. Chaudhari bagged 4 wickets and Divyadarshini scalped 3 wickets and restricted India Blue to 70 runs in 17.4 overs.

While chasing, India Green took only 12.5 overs to reach the target. Though they lost their opener, Nikita Chauhan, very cheaply but captain S. Meghana and Disha Kasat build a stable 49-run partnership before the former got out. Kasat anchored the chase and scored an unbeaten 43 off 37 with 6 fours and a six and helped India Green win the title with 7.1 overs to spare.
