Bhagavadgita in syllabus: Let BJP come for open debate, says Prof. BKC

May 7, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Senior Congress leader and former Minister Prof. B.K. Chandrashekar (BKC) has called for an open discussion with BJP on the introduction of Bhagavadgita in school syllabus.

His party, Congress, has maintained that the present syllabus has been prepared by resourceful persons and there is no need to include anything now.

Addressing a press conference in city on May 5, Prof. Chandrashekar said that he was not opposed to the idea but religious texts of other faiths too must be taught.

“To describe Bhagavadgita as a moral text ignoring its religious aspects in a bid to introduce it in school curriculum and exclude other religious texts is wrong. We have texts of other religions too. Even writings of famous poets can be included in the syllabus. Let the BJP come for an open discussion on this and take a decision after honouring consensus. Let people from all walks of life and from all religions attend the discussion,” he said.

According to Primary and Secondary Education Minister B.C. Nagesh, Bhagavadgita has human values and children need to learn about those values. The Government of Gujarat has taken a decision to add Bhagavadgita in the syllabus and a decision will be taken in Karnataka also to introduce Bhagavadgita to children.

Prof. Chandrashekar chided the BJP for often raising emotive issues rather than focussing on governance. “Unemployment and polarisation in society on communal lines is affecting the middle class population and the COVID-19 pandemic left more than 10 million people jobless. Before the pandemic, 30 million youths were jobless and the BJP Government has not bothered to address the growing problem,” he said.

“The BJP is interested in polarising the society on the lines of caste and religion so that the real issues bothering the nation are camouflaged. The Government has maintained a stoic silence on the burning issues. The Government is pushing Hindutva agenda and if one hears the speeches of CMs of BJP-ruled States, it is clear what is there in their minds,” he added.

Shockingly, the agenda is to saffronise education and culture, he claimed. The Congress leader termed Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai as a sober man but he was forced to implement the Hindutva policies.

Mysuru City Congress President R. Murthy, Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited former Chairman H.A. Venkatesh and District Media Spokesperson Mahesh were present at the press meet.

Ok, may be we need to know what exactly Kuran teaches…. having said this, introduce Kuran in high schools, let our kids know the truth and history of its preaching.

    Hey Raj
Koran is a a mouth piece of a militant religion called Islam. It preaches killing and murder, hence you see those Muslim terrorists kill for no reason. But what you hear from those in Congress who love licking the shoes of the Muslims, is a glorified , sanitised version sprinkled with how Tipu Sultan was kind hearted patriot! There is surely be a chapter explaining how those terrorists after their self-inflicted death, will be received by 66 Virgins in the Heaven!
Btw, there is some who posts calling himself @Baha men, who is scared of Muslims and is now suffering from Rabies!

  3. Raj says:

I know what you are saying, by exposing what Islam is about, at least people will know the facts before greeting during this so called festival (?). Everybody would know when the stone pelting started and what is Ramadan is about, “The belief is Ramadan is a month of war that comes from islamic history itself”.
The prophet Muhammad waged his first jihad, known as the Battle of Badr, during Ramadan in 624….

@Mann Ki Baat, Bisi Bele Baat! Please spread misinformation about Quaran! is not 66 but 72!

  5. Ravi says:

    I meant ‘Don’t spread misinformation ‘

    @Ravi
Anyway, it iis more than a dozen virgins, give or take a few more!
I do not live there, nor in India; one thing I know, Muslims in Mysore and Karnataka do not learn Kannada. The English medium in high schools those days were created for them. I guess still the same situation. Compare this with the situation in Tamil Nadu, where all Muslims speak Tamil, their knowledge of Urdu has been sparse , so are the Muslims of Kerala who speak Malayalam only.
You will have problems in Mysore, when your MP Simha, manages to get the Hassan-Kodagu-Kerala Highway constructed, plus the Mysore airport operational for A320 jet liners etc.. which will suck in more Muslims- most of them Malayalees, some of them crime bosses in the Gulf Countries, making Greater Mysore, their new homes for business and settlement. That will happen within 5 years.
I would not be surprised, if all of them vote for Congress, introduce Koran studies and get Tipu university functional.
