Broken stone slabs, poor condition of Road in SBM Colony, Udayagiri

April 15, 2024

Sir,

We residents of SBM Colony, Udayagiri, are concerned about the condition of the road in our neighbourhood. There is a large hole dug up at the corner of road to facilitate free flow of drainage water at the intersection near the park. However, after the repair work was completed, the hole was not properly closed.

This poses a significant danger, especially in the evening and at night, as there are no street lights at the place. Pedestrians and motorists find it difficult to spot the hole, making it hazardous to navigate the area.

Taking a turn to enter our lane is particularly challenging for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The condition of road worsened during the laying of new sanitary pipes for the entire lane.

The stone slabs in front of the gates were damaged or broken, and the stone blocks of the drainage system in front of the compound were also damaged at several places. Despite repeated complaints over the past four years, the issues with sanitary pipelines were addressed only recently, but the subsequent repair is not satisfactory.

The improper filling of mud after laying the new pipes has resulted in uneven road surfaces. The damaged stone slabs in front of our gates pose a serious risk, especially to children and elderly residents who need to navigate them daily.

Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the contractors responsible, they have refused to take responsibility or initiate repairs. This has left us in a precarious situation, with no action taken either by the contractors or the MCC to rectify the damage caused.

We urge the MCC Commissioner and others concerned to address these issues promptly. We welcome them to visit the site to assess the situation firsthand and take appropriate action to resolve these issues as soon as possible.
