Bengaluru: With just a day left for Cabinet formation, the JD(S) leadership, anticipating trouble within the party over Cabinet berths, is understood to have decided to keep three Ministerial berths vacant.
The JD(S), which can accommodate only 11 of its MLAs in the Cabinet, is feeling the heat as the list of aspirants lobbying for Ministerial berths has been growing by the day, with more than twenty MLAs said to be vying for berths. The party is said to have decided on giving district-wise representation in the Cabinet.
According to sources, H.D. Revanna (Hassan), C.S. Puttaraju (Mandya), G.T. Devegowda (Mysuru), Bandappa Kashampur (Bidar), K. Srinivas Gowda (Kolar), Venkatrao Nadagowda (Raichur), N. Mahesh (Chamarajanagar) and Srinivas (Tumakuru) are likely to be inducted into the Ministry on Wednesday.
As a result, senior leaders like A.H. Vishwanath, D.C. Thammanna, MLC Basavaraj Horatti and S.R. Mahesh may miss the bus.
Party General Secretary B.M. Farookh, who was on Monday elected to the Upper House and tipped for a Cabinet berth, too is unlikely to be inducted into the Ministry, following opposition within the party.
Meanwhile, differences have emerged among JD(S) leaders over sharing of portfolios.
The dispute, sources say, is between H.D. Revanna, elder brother of CM H.D. Kumaraswamy and Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda (GTD), who defeated Siddharamaiah. While Revanna seems to be keen on both Power and PWD portfolios, GTD is said to be demanding one of the two.
On its part, the Congress, which is the coalition partner, is likely to finalise the names of its Legislators to be inducted in the H.D. Kumaraswamy-headed Government.
After weeks of hectic lobbying by partymen, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is learnt to have returned to New Delhi from US tour late on Monday night, will approve the list of Ministers.
While leader like Dr. G. Parameshwara, Siddharamaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao travelled to Delhi on Monday, the old guard of the Congress, who include leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, K.H. Muniyappa and Rahman Khan, have been holding meetings in Delhi for two days now.
While Kharge is pushing for his son Priyank, K.H. Muniyappa is lobbying hard for his daughter Roopakala Sashidhar and Rahman Khan for himself, it is learnt.
Kharge, Muniyappa, KPCC President and Deputy CM Dr. G. Parameshwara, former CM Siddharamaiah, KPCC Working President Dinesh Gundu Rao, D.K. Shivakumar, Congress in-charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal and Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will meet Rahul Gandhi this evening to get an approval for the list of Congress Legislators who will take oath as Ministers on Wednesday.
The Congress has 22 out of the 34 Cabinet berths, while the JD(S) has 12.
