Mysuru: ‘Vidwath-2019,’ a two-day State-level Inter-Collegiate Commerce and Management Fest, organised by the Department of Commerce and Management of Vidyavardhaka First Grade College was held in the college premises on Seshadri Iyer Road recently.
Speaking as the chief guest, city Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna said he was an alumnus of the college and recalled his student days.
Pointing out that the BBM course was newly-introduced then, Balakrishna said that though he was not a bright student, he studied hard to gain knowledge.
Noting that fests such as these help the students to share and exchange ideas, he called upon the students to make good use of their students days for shaping a good career.
G.S. Raghavendra, Founder and Director, Geloof Industries Private limited, Bengaluru, who inaugurated the event, said that it was vital for the students to have an action plan of what they are going to do.
Highlighting the advantages of developing a competitive spirit, he said that such events will help the students to hone their skills.

Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi, Registrar of University of Mysore, in his valedictory address said “There are no short cuts for success; an individual can succeed only with efforts and hard work. He/she can attain success beyond whatever hurdles they face in their life. Education is the only power that elevates an ordinary person to an extraordinary one.”
“The society is almost marks oriented. But a student who graduates from a college/University should be aware of the values he has gained from an institution. He must become an asset to such an institution. We must all have a vision of our future and think in what way we can contribute to our country, our society, to the mankind, for which we have to work incessantly,” he said.
Many events were organised, both core and non-core events, for the students of various colleges. Winners and runners were given cash prizes and trophies with certificates of excellence and participation. The overall winners were awarded cash prize of Rs.15,000 with trophy. MICA College, Mysore bagged the overall trophy.
Gundappa Gowda, Hon. President of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, P. Vishwanth, Hon. Secretary, Shrishaila Ramannanavar, Hon. Treasurer, Dr. S. Mari Gowda, Principal of VVFGC and Prof. H.J. Chandrashekar, Convener of VVFGC 40th Year Celebrations were present.
