Commonwealth Games 2018: Shuttler Saina Nehwal wins gold; P.V. Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth take home silver

Gold Coast: Indian star Saina Nehwal defeated compatriot P.V. Sindhu in straight games to win the women’s singles title in the badminton competition at the 21st Commonwealth Games today. Saina displayed some superb form to clinch a 21-18, 23-21 victory in the final.

SILVER

Indian badminton player World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth takes home silver after losing Men’s Singles match to Malayasia’s Lee Chong Wei 21-19, 14-21, 14-21.

Defending Champions Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa settle for silver after losing their women’s doubles final match to the New Zealand pair of Joelle King and Amanda Landers-Murphy in straight games 9-11, 8-11 in just over 20 minutes.

India’s Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty take home the Men’s Doubles badminton silver after losing to England’s Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in final.

BRONZE

In Mixed Doubles Table Tennis, India’s Manika Batra/Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Achanta Sharath Kamal/Mouma Das to win bronze.

Ace Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal outshined England’s Samuel Walker to bag the bronze medal with a stunning 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 in the Men’s Singles circuit.

Closing Ceremony: Mary Kom will be the flagbearer for India in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2018 scheduled to take place on Sunday. The 35-year-old won her maiden CWG gold medal on Saturday after beating Northern Ireland’s Kristina O’Hara in the light flyweight (48kg) final.

India’s Medal Tally — Gold: 26; Silver: 20; Bronze: 20 (Total: 66).
