New Delhi: The Congress High Command has expressed its disappointment on both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar over the recent stampede incident at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that claimed the lives of 11 RCB fans and left many injured.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is said to have been visibly upset over the incident stating that, what was supposed to be a private event had caused humiliation to the Congress party nationwide.
In a meeting held at Indira Gandhi Bhavan in the presence of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi sought information about the incident and also about the need for the State Government to organise a felicitation event for the winners of IPL-2025, a private tournament.
“We had been looking up to Karnataka Government as a role model for other States. But, the stampede incident, which is being discussed worldwide, has caused pain,” he said and questioned the State Government’s move to organise the event in a hurry without proper planning.
Rahul Gandhi is said to have also questioned both CM and Dy.CM the reason behind organising the event in front of Vidhana Soudha despite Police denying permission.
The Congress High Command has also expressed disappointment against D.K. Shivakumar taking part in the ceremony held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium despite news about the stampede being telecast in TV channels.
The Congress High Command is said have informed both Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister that the stampede incident has put the Congress party on the backfoot as it was preparing to corner the Central Government over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and stampede at Kumbh Mela.
Rahul Gandhi is said to have informed both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar that the party is forced to take certain decisions following the stampede incident.
