Mysuru: A conman posed as a City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuth and managed to blackmail a youth who ended up in paying money to the conman. The incident that occurred at Hootagalli a few days back has come to light now as the victim has lodged a complaint.
According to Police, Hemanth, a resident of KHB Colony at Hootagalli, had visited his friend’s place near here on Oct. 7. Hemanth told the Police that a person came on a bike and introduced himself as CCB Cop C.P. Ravi.
Ravi apparently told Hemanth that the CCB was tracking his (Hemanth’s) activities and had all information. He then demanded Rs.10,000 from Hemanth for the investigation to stop. He also threatened Hemanth of dire consequences if the money was not paid. An unsuspecting Hemanth handed over Rs. 5,000 and left the spot. In his complaint, Hemanth stated that he was repeatedly called by the conman for money. He stated in the complaint that he was fed up with the daily torture and decided to visit the CCB office to verify the antecedents of the Cop.
To his shock, Hemanth realised that the man who introduced himself as a CCB Cop was actually a conman and CCB officers told him that no such Constable was working at CCB. Hemanth later approached Vijayanagar Police and has filed a complaint.
