Mysore/Mysuru: Following a Court order, Jayalakshmipuram Police, on Feb. 6, have registered cases against 14 Governing Council Members of Mahajana Education Society (MES), including the Administrative Officer.

Cases have been registered under IPC Section 1860 (120B, 406, 409, 420, 149) against them. 

Based on the complaint from former Director of Mahajana Tourism Development Institute Dr. K.S. Nagapathi and directions from the Court, FIR has been registered against the members.

Dr. Nagapathi, in his complaint, had stated that after his retirement as the Head of the Department of Commerce at D. Banumaiah’s College, the President of Mahajana Education Society had urged him to become the Adviser to the Commerce and Management Department of Mahajana’s First Grade College run by MES to which he (Dr. Nagapathi) had agreed.

The complaint further stated that as he had the background of Tourism, he was able to procure a grant of Rs. 4 crore to construct the college building and set up infrastructure for the college to start the Tourism course. As differences of opinions cropped up, MES filed a case against him at Jayalakshmipuram Police Station, which was transferred to City Crime Branch (CCB). The CCB had submitted a chargesheet to the Court and the case is in the hearing stage, he has stated in the complaint.

Dr. Nagapathi contended that MES in their complaint had accused that he (Nagapathi) had opened two bank accounts in Jayalakshmipuram and Metagalli branches of State Bank of Mysore and had misused the money. Dr. Nagapathi has stated that the accounts were opened with specific instructions from the President of MES and the MES, in fact had even received a sum of Rs. 4,19,26,721 through 34 cheques over a period of six years from 2009-10 to 2014-15 from the two bank accounts. The MES had also issued 58 cheques to these two bank accounts amounting to Rs. 19,34,258 during the above said period.

Dr. Nagapathi has further stated in the complaint that he had applied leave for two days and had gone to Belagavi to receive his D. Litt degree during which the MES Management had taken away all files, bills, vouchers, receipts and other documents in his absence and issued a show cause notice to him asking him to provide complete account from 2009 to 2015 along with bills, receipts and other documents.

The complainant further stated that the 14 persons, with dishonest intensions, had cheated him and based on the Court order, the Police have registered the FIR.
