Disneyland project: Some thoughts

July 7, 2018

Sir,

Apropos the news item titled ‘Brindavan Gardens to be developed like Disneyland: CM’ (Star of Mysore dated July 5). Well-maintained Brindavan Gardens used to be another world whenever we used to visit this world famous spot when we were young. The charm and the sanctity of this beautiful Gardens has been degraded by ugly and (encroached?) structures selling all kinds of things. I haven’t visited this place in recent times.

Now, our Chief Minister wants to develop this exotic fairyland on the lines of Disneyland. Should we allow this ill-advised and ill-conceived project to be undertaken without being debated? The Gardens, of course, need sprucing up urgently.

Commenting on the metro rail on the iconic Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bengaluru, Charles Correa, the famous architect said: ‘The track on M.G. Road should have gone underground: or at least the elevated part should have been in steel instead of the ugly concrete expressions with gigantic pillars running all along’ — the character of a beautiful and pulsating road was changed forever!

So, we should be careful with our Brindavan Gardens. Priority, instead should be given for rejuvenating all defunct and dying lakes and water bodies in the State as soon as possible.
