Simha and Guru Valmiki Banerjee, presents ‘Varna Vaibhava’ on Nov. 14 at 6.30 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavana, Adichunchanagiri Road, Kuvempunagar in city.
Conceptualisation and direction is by Vidushi Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar. The performing artistes of Surabhi Gana Kalamandira are: Vidu. R. Nityashree, Vidu. Akshatha Bhat, P. Prerana, Anjana Matham and Sharanya G. Bhat. They will be accompanied on violin by Vid. M.D. Arjun and on mridanga by Vid. P.S. Sridhar.
Hailing from an artiste’s family, Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar is a multifaceted artiste of different stature. She is the daughter of the freedom fighter and National awardee H.K. Subba Rao and Lakshmamma Subba Rao.
Dr. Sukanya is the student of her mother in Karnatak music. Sukanya has been conferred Doctorate by the University for her thesis on the contributions of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar.
Being a popular artiste, through Surabhi Gana Kalamandira she has been imparting music to many students. Dr. Sukanya is an AIR and Doordarshan ‘A’ grade artiste.
To her credit, she has released many recordings and is a recipient of Kannada Rajyotsava Award by Government of Karnataka, Karnataka Kalashree, Award from Madras Music Academy, Ganakalashree Award, Sangeetha Kala Ratna from Gayana Samaja, Bengaluru and many more.
