Mysore/Mysuru: An “Engineering Exploration Lab” was inaugurated recently at Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Mysuru, for the first batch of undergraduate engineering students under autonomous scheme.
The main objective of the lab is to introduce fresh engineering students to multidisciplinary experiment-based projects with hands-on experience and imbibe strong fundamentals in current technologies.
This lab goes hand-in-hand with National Education Policy (NEP) focusing on developing skills on various real time experiments like voice-controlled car, solar-based water pumping system, webpage development, construction of drone, 3-D printing, wiring and soldering, civil-based bridges and houses etc.
Engineering Exploration Lab is an extension of V–Innovate Lab which was run from past three years as beyond syllabus exercise. A unique feature of this lab is that all experiments are self-designed by the engineering faculties of VVCE without outsourcing any of the models.
The experiments are so chosen that they represent real time applications. Discrete components were purchased and assembled by faculty and the team has kept all models ready for usage by students. According to faculties, this arrangement will help students to feel the components and assemble themselves so that they can build their own innovative projects.
VVCE Principal Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda said that autonomy has given them freedom to start new initiatives which will cater to the student and industry needs. The lab will induce entrepreneurship ability among students and also act as a basement for promoting problem-solving skills.
The lab was inaugurated by VV Sangha Secretary. P. Vishwanath. President Gundappa Gowda, Treasurer Shrishaila Ramannavar, Coordinator Dr. S. Rashmi and faculties were present on the occasion.
