‘First Dalit Sahitya Sammelana at Kolar in Aug.’

Dr. Manu Baligar inaugurates JC Wadiyar centenary at Krishna Gana Sabha 

Mysuru: Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Manu Baligar has said that the first ever Dalit Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will take place at Kolar on Aug.17 and 18.

He was speaking after inaugurating Sri Jayachamaraja (JC) Wadiyar birth centenary celebrations organised by Srikrishna Gana Sabha at Alwar Kala Bhavan in Gokulam 3rd Stage here on Friday. 

Stating that Rajya Sabha MP and senior writer Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah will inaugurate the event, Baligar reiterated that this was the first such event.

Recalling the efforts of JC Wadiyar for the promotion of Kannada culture, land and language, he said that the last ruler of Mysore was known for his good administration. Pointing out that JC Wadiyar had also served as a Governor, he said that the erstwhile Mysore ruler graduated from Maharaja’s College and was well-versed in Kannada, English and Economics.

Noting that Kannada Sahitya Parishat has 3.25 lakh life members, he said that the Parishat has the distinction of being the largest cultural society in the world in respect of numbers.

Maintaining that the Parishat is the pride of all Kannadigas, Baligar said that the Parishat was planning to bring out a collection of poems written by top  Kannada writers. 

Lecturer Hemalatha said that JC Wadiyar had gained expertise in Political Science, History, Economics as well as some African languages.

Stating that the erstwhile Maharaja was a piano expert, she said that JC Wadiyar should be credited for establishing public libraries in city.

She further said that the last Mysore Maharaja was very interested in spiritualism and scripted a book titled ‘Dattatreya: The Way and the Goal,’ for which former President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan has written the foreword.

Senior artiste Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar, Corporator SBM Manju, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha’s B.S. Sridhar Raje Urs and others were present.
