Nanjangud: Five individuals have been arrested in connection with a violent assault on two persons within the premises of Nanjangud’s Government hospital. The incident occurred yesterday, involving lethal weapons.
The arrested have been identified as Shivakumar alias Monti, Subhash alias Subbu and two others. One of the accused is a minor, and his name has been protected. The victims, Abhishek and Ravi, residents of Mandi Mohalla in Mysuru, have been admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.
Abhishek had married a woman from Srirampura, Nanjangud, three years ago. Her cousin, Shivakumar, was reportedly being harassed by three local youths who repeatedly mocked him using the term ‘monkey.’ A complaint regarding this harassment had been filed by Shivakumar’s mother at the Nanjangud Town Police Station.
Following the complaint, the accused allegedly developed a grudge against Shivakumar. On Friday, during the Varamahalakshmi festival, Abhishek had come to visit his wife’s family. Due to a health issue involving a relative, he accompanied them to the hospital for treatment.
It was at this moment that Subhash and his associates, who had been lying in wait, arrived in an autorickshaw armed with deadly weapons. They launched a violent attack on Abhishek, who is Shivakumar’s brother-in-law. Ravi, who attempted to intervene, was also assaulted.
