Mysuru: The State Government has chosen 62 personalities for the annual Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, including historian Ramachandra Guha, writer Vaidehi, theatre personality ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru, playback singer K.J. Yesudas and former Karnataka High Court Judge H.N. Nagamohan Das.
Four of the awardees — N.Y. Puttannaiah (theatre), Meera Naik (Social Service), Dr. P.K. Rajashekar (folklore) and G. L. N. Simha (Sculpture) — are from Mysuru.
The selection for the award was made on the recommendation of a Committee set up by the State Government. The award carries a purse of Rs. 1 lakh, a 20 gram gold medal and a citation.
Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will give away the awards at a function to be organised by Kannada and Culture Department at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava on Nov. 1.
Rejects Award
Meanwhile, Human Rights Protection Foundation’s Udupi District President Dr. Ravindranath Shanbagh, who is a recipient of the Rajyotsava award under Social Service category, has rejected the award stating he is not contented with his service to senior citizens, it is learnt.
