July 6, 2018

Bengaluru: Customs authorities have seized 2.8 kg gold worth about Rs. 87.69 lakh from a dustbin placed in the departure wing of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) here.

Sources said that the gold chains packed in black insulation tape were dumped in the dustbin this morning and officials on getting doubt during routine check opened it and to their surprise, the new method of gold smugglers was unearthed.

During transit time, smugglers who arrive from foreign countries might have dumped the gold in the dustbin and a carrier who was waiting for it would take the dustbin in the name of cleaning it and take the stock for onward transfer, sources added.
