Interesting originating from Surathkal, which was a toddy-tapping arid patch, even when then the MP from the region, Srinivasa Mallya, with the help of his mentor LB Shastry, got then the Regional Engineering College. Located in nowhere, about in the midst of the road connecting Mangalore to Udipi, this place for long remained a waterless, with sights of toddy pots swinging from the palm trees. It was totally uninhabitable even in 1980s.
Puzzled about this Vidwan’s ancestry there in that arid land where one could see only the drunk and swaying Mangaloreans!
