Srilalitha Uliyaru’s 501st Harikatha programme

Mysore/Mysuru: Veteran scholar Vyasanakere Prabhanjanacharya has opined that the Harikatha medium which is on the verge of extinction should be preserved, continued and developed further.

He was speaking after inaugurating 501st Classical Harikatha rendition of Srilalitha Uliyaru, a Harikatha exponent and a resident of Mysuru. The function was organised at Sri Raghavendra Aradhana auditorium, Krishnamurthypuram  in the city recently.

Lauding the achievement of Srilalitha Uliyaru who showed her fascination for Harikatha when she was a two-year-old kid and for presenting her 501st programme in the city, Prabhanjanacharya advised her to do more study and research in Harikathas and reach greater heights with purity of language.

“Harikatha spreads awareness about our epics like Ramayana, Mahabharatha and others among the rural folk and the illiterates. In rural areas, elders used to settle disputes delivering judgements based on the instances derived from Ramayana and Mahabharata. India is known across the world for its Sanatana Dharma which is now facing extinction. We will lose our very existence, if we lose our rich culture,” opined Prabhanjanacharya.

Srilalitha presented ‘Sundarakanda-Hanumadvilasa’ Harikatha at the function. Her brother Srihari Acharya Uliyaru on tabla, Ganesh Bhat on keyboard, Chandanjumar on violin and Manohar Murthy on tala accompanied her.

Hon. Secretary of Vijaya Vittala and BSS Vidyodaya R. Vasudev Bhat, Director of Sadvidya Educational Institutions M.D. Gopinath, Multilink Plant Head Girish Kulkarni, senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar and others were present. Srihari Uliyaru rendered invocation. G. Vasudev Uliyaru welcomed. Veena Uliyaru  proposed a vote of thanks.
