International Day of Yoga – June 21

Mysuru: With hours left for the celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga in city, the District Administration is all geared up to get Mysuru’s name etched in the Guinness Book of World Records by hosting more than 60,000 yoga enthusiasts to perform various asanas at the sprawling Mysore Race Course tomorrow  (June 21).

The programme to be held from 6 am to 8 am, will be inaugurated by District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa at 6 am. Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge will be the chief guest. MLA M.K. Somashekar will preside.

Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Health and Family Welfare Minister K.R. Ramesh Kumar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Marithibbegowda, ZP President Nayeema Sulthana, MPs Pratap Simha, R. Dhruvanarayan and C.S. Puttaraju, MLAs and MLCs, Chairpersons of various Boards and Corporations and others will be present.

VENUE INSPECTION

DC D. Randeep, accompanied by Tourism Deputy Director Janardhan, Assistant Conservator of Forest Shivegowda, Srihari of GSS Yoga Foundation and others inspected the preparations at the Mysore Race Course this morning.

FACILITIES

The District Administration will be making all necessary arrangements at the venue. All participants will be served with breakfast at the end of the yoga demonstration.

The Mysore Race Club authorities will open all seven entry gates at 5 am to facilitate the participants to prepare for performing yogasanas. All participants have been instructed to wear white T-shirt and pants (men) or chudidar (for women) and get yoga mat or jamkana or bed spreads or turkey towel according to their convenience.

This apart, all participants must perform yogasanas as mere participation will not help in city entering the record books. Moreover, the non-performance by 10 percent or more of the total number of participants  are not performing on yoga mats/ bed spreads/ jamkana / turkey towels will not be considered for the record.

BAR-CODED TICKET

On entering the premises, each participant will be given a bar-coded ticket which will be scanned and later collected back. This is to get a count of the total number of participants.

For institutions bringing bulk participants may contact the District Administration for advance tickets.

PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE

After the programme, participants must exit from the venue from the same gate from where they entered and collect their participation certificate.

Details of Entry Gates

Gate 1 : Maharana Pratap Circle – for JSS representatives.

Gate 2 : MRC Administrative Block Gate – for yoga institutes, private institutions, CBSE Schools.

Gate 3 : Punters’ Gate – for General Public.

Gate 4 : Golf Club Gate – for General Public.

Gate 5 : Lorry Terminal Gate – for institutions under DDPI and DDPU, BCM and Social Welfare Hostel inmates, UoM

Gate 6 : CAR Grounds Road – for General Public.

Gate 7 : CAR Administration Office Road – for VVIPs, Media Representatives, Organisers and Officers.

Parking & Traffic Diversion

The Mysuru City Police have made arrangements for parking of vehicles and have diverted the vehicular movement on the Race Course Road. Participants who enter the Race Course must park their vehicles as follows:

Gate 1 : Karanji Lake premises, ATI premises and at Horse Park.

Gate 2 : Karanji Lake and ATI premises.

Gate-3 & Gate 4 : Dasara Exhibition Ground, Mall of Mysore and Doddakere Maidan.

Gate 5 & Gate 6 : JSS (Ooty Road) College premises and foot of Chamundi Hill.

Gate 7 : CAR Grounds and inside open space near Gate 7.

Traffic Diversion

Vehicles travelling towards Mysuru city must take a compulsory left at JSS junction on Ooty Road and move forward on JLB Road. Those vehicles travelling towards Race Course from Kurubarahalli Circle on Lalitha Mahal Road must take a right turn on Kurubarahalli Circle to enter Vayuvihar Road and move forward on Male Mahadeshwara Road. Those vehicles travelling towards Zoo on Mirza Road must move on Mirza Road towards Nazarbad Circle and move further. KSRTC Buses travelling towards Nanjangud must enter the BN Road – Patashala Circle – Chamaraja Double Road – Ramaswamy Circle – take left on JLB Road and enter Nanjangud Road. Buses traveling towards Kollegal and T. Narasipur must travel towards Five Light Circle – North Gate of Government Guest House – SP Office Circle – Chamundi Vihar Stadium – Nazarbad Police Station Circle – take left and travel further on Male Mahadeshwara Road.
