Mysuru: A three-day International Conference on ‘Advanced functional materials for energy, environment and health care’ organised by Centre for Materials Science and Technology, Mysore University, at Vigyan Bhavan in Manasagangothri here, will conclude tomorrow.
Inaugurating the programme, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Senior Executive Director, Professor Dr. BVR Choudhary opined that science and technology usage should not harm the environment. He said that Material Science and Technology was essential for producing products useful to mankind. He regretted that products after usage were indiscriminately thrown whose harmful metals could contaminate the soil.
Continuing, Dr. Choudhary said that fuel consumption was going up in proportion to the population which automatically increases the air pollution. He contended that on the pretext of industrialisation, the earth is being polluted. He suggested to increase recycling of materials.
Global Materials Research Publicity Centre, Taiwan Director Dr. Masahiro Yoshimura, former VC of UoM Prof. K.S. Rangappa, VC Dr. G. Hemantha Kumar, Registrar Dr. Lingaraj Gandhi, former VC of Manglore University Dr. K. Bhyrappa were present.
