Mysuru: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Clean India Movement, is a campaign launched by the present Government at the Centre to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country’s 4,041 statutory cities and towns. How does one feel if the ruling party’s members themselves choose to transgress the call of the campaign?
This is what exactly transpired when former Minister and BJP MLA Suresh Kumar visited the house of BJP leader Ashok at Devaraja Mohalla to attend the Chamundeshwari puja ceremony. As Suresh Kumar was entering the house, the excited BJP workers and followers started bursting firecrackers to welcome him, last evening.
Luckily, Suresh Kumar a polished politician was not amused by this rather loud welcome. Instead, he expressed his displeasure. Because of the huge number of firecrackers burst, the whole place was littered with paper pieces. He requested one of the party workers for a broomstick and started sweeping the street.
The others who saw the action of Suresh Kumar were stunned by his gesture. Immediately, BJP City President Dr. B.H. Manjunath, other leaders and the party workers scrambled to get more broomsticks and joined him in the cleaning campaign.
After all the garbage was collected in one place, Suresh Kumar addressed the workers and said, just to please someone, bursting of crackers creating noise pollution and rendering the place dirty is not in the interest of anyone. “We have already started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and what has been done by the workers is nothing but a crime is it not?” he asked them.
He advised the party workers to refrain from such loud welcome in the future and instead welcome the leaders with love and affection.
BJP leader C. Basavegowda, who reached the spot while Suresh Kumar was sweeping the street, also joined him. Mayor M.J. Ravikumar was also present.
It is the nicest thing to know that at least somebody remembered what ‘Swatch Bharath Campaign ” means!
Sir,
While I applaud the action of MLA Suresh Kumar, my question is will this lesson sink in?
Without wishing to decry the efforts of various organizations contributing to Swacch Bharat Abhiyan movement, will this make a lasting impact on the general population?
Everyone should set an example by maintaining cleanliness at home and streets everyday.
We need to inculcate the habits of cleanliness, honesty and discipline in our school children from the young age so the future generations can keep India clean.
Very happy to see that finally one politician in our surrounding has realised the mess they create….hope others take note of it and finally stop the absurd flex culture too.
