Irresponsible societal behaviour : Major cause for Covid spread

May 7, 2021

Sir,

I had just finished a phone conversation with a friend on the consequences of 6 am to 10 am shopping window when I received the copy of SOM on 30th April. Headlines — “MAD RUSH.” What else?

In our country ‘People’s behaviour’ has become more of a pandemic whereas commonsense and implicit obedience to orders would have contained COVID better.

The latter is largely manifested in the very same SOM issue where Tibetan Colony in Bylakuppe of 40,000 inhabitants have contained COVID very successfully, observing protocols for 400-odd days.

This behaviour and attitude speaks of community responsibility and commonsense that helps local administration to concentrate on more important aspects.

In the current scenario, it was not right on the part of the Government to allow a 4-hour window of 6 am to 10 am. Commonsense suggests that people would herd like sheep violating all protocols with gay abandon. And that is what is seen in the pictures printed in SOM.

We have examples of many countries where Government orders are respected implicitly under crises. Ultimately, cooperation from populace is more critical to containment. God save our masses.
