K.R. Police have arrested Sadath Khan, 26, an ITI drop out from Hassan, who had allegedly duped one Umesh of city by promising to get him a job in the Railways for Rs.10 lakh. Umesh allegedly transferred Rs. 2.8 lakh to an account number provided by the accused while the balance Rs. 7.2 lakh was to be paid after receiving the appointment order. When the accused failed to answer the calls of Umesh, the suspicious Umesh lodged a complaint with the Police.
According to Police, Sadath Khan used to introduce himself as Preetham & Karthik and befriend women on matrimonial websites posing as a Railway employee and extract money citing various reasons including assuring them of a job in the Railways and sometimes throwing marriage proposals to the gullible women. The Police have learnt that Khan had obtained more than Rs. 50 lakh from women on various counts.
The accused ran out of luck, when Umesh lodged a complaint with Police. Similar complaints have been lodged against the accused in Hebbagodi, J.P. Nagar and K.R. Puram Police Station in Bengaluru besides one in Dharwad, according to Police.
K.R. Police have recovered five ATM cards of various Banks, Voter ID cards under different names, Aadhaar card, a copy of Driving Licence in the name of Karthik, six mobile phones with six sim cards, cheque books, stamp papers, a car and Rs.12,000 in cash.
