Karnatak Classical Music contest: Entries invited

Vivekananda Institute of Indian Studies (VIIS) and Swaralayam Arts Forum, Houston, USA, are jointly organising music competitions as part of 17th Annual Sulochana Pattabhiraman Utsavam to be held on Sept. 24 at Vivekananda Institute of Indian Studies, Kiadb Industrial Housing Area, Ring Road, Hebbal, Mysuru  at 10 am. The event aims to encourage and blossom the talent of students in the age of 13 to 22 years.

One of the events is competitions in Karnatak Classical Music (vocal, instrumental — wind instruments – flute; string instruments – violin and veena; and percussion instruments – mridanga and ghata). The students are expected to be amateurs/senior learning in classical music. The contestants shall present a kruthi along with a brief manodharma within a time limit of 8 minutes.
