Bengaluru: The 3-day old B.S. Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka collapsed today, with the chief minister announcing his decision to resign without facing a trust vote.
The Supreme Court had yesterday ordered a floor test in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 PM today, drastically slashing the 15-day window given by Governor Vajubhai Vala to BJP Chief Minister Yeddyurappa to prove his majority.
“I am going to resign as chief minister…I will go to Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation.
“I will not face confidence vote…I am going to resign,” he told the Assembly after a brief emotional speech.
Yeddyurappa said he would now “go to the people”.
His resignation will pave the way for the formation of a government led by JD(S) state chief H D Kumaraswamy, who has the backing of the Congress. The newly formed alliance has claimed support of 117 MLAs in the 224-member House with an effective strength of 221.
Polling for two seats was not held due to various reasons, while Kumaraswamy won from two places.
Now the game begins., operation Kamala or whatever game.. JDS and cong were scolding each other before elections, now they will fight each other and government will fall in a year. BJP will poach as many MLAs as possible and form government. Patience pays…
i feel hdk cannot prove majority in the floor of the house on 22nd as by that time in a day or two all lingayat mlas from congress and jds will abstain from the voting and naturally he cannot prove the majority and the allianace will fall on Tuesday. hddk cannot become c m of this state. i feel GOVERNOR RULE WILL BE IMPOSED ON TUESDAY.
Now the game begins., operation Kamala or whatever game.. JDS and cong were scolding each other before election, now they will fight each other and Kumaraswamy government will fall in a year. BJP will poach as many MLAs as possible and form government. Patience pays…
It is ominous that Mr.Yediyurappa had to make an exit for anointing Mr.H.D.Kumaraswamy (for whom political power was more important than his life) as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.People were aghast at Mr.Kumaraswamy for impleading during the election campaign that they should vote for him if they want him to see him alive. Ironically the fractured mandate in Karnataka has allowed such power hungry political leaders of the JD(S) and the Congress to grab it at the expense of the single largest party, the BJP.
