Karnataka Congress tweets for… peace… then deletes… then salutes!

May 7, 2025

Mysuru: While the entire country lauded the Indian Army for carrying out ‘Operation Sindoor’, as a retaliation to Pahalgam terror attack, destroying the terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan early this morning, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) called for peace through a tweet on its ‘X’ handle.

At about 7.20 am, when the news channels were buzzing with information about ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian Armed Forces, the Karnataka Congress on its ‘X’ platform posted ‘Manukulada Athyantha Shaktiyuta Shastra Yendare Shanthi — Mahatma Gandhi (“Peace is the most powerful weapon of mankind.” — Mahatma Gandhi) along with a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi.

Following this tweet, the Congress party faced a huge backlash from the public who criticised the party for calling for peace despite dreaded terrorists, nestled in the neighbouring Pakistan, killing innocent tourists, mostly Indians, in Pahalgam on Apr. 22.

Soon, the tweet was deleted and another tweet hailing the Indian Air Force was posted in both Kannada and English languages on the party’s ‘X’ handle. The tweet read as follows: “The Indian Air Force (IAF), widely recognised as one of the world’s strongest air forces gave a befitting reply to the cowardly #PahalgamTerroristAttack

We stand with the govt, we stand with our security forces. #OperationSindoor.”

Even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to ‘X’ and posted hailing Operation Sindoor.

“I salute the extraordinary courage of our armed forces behind Operation Sindoor. Their heroic action reaffirms that India will never tolerate terror in any form.”

The brutal attack in Pahalgam was not just on innocent lives, it was an assault on the dreams and spirit of India. Every effort of our brave soldiers is a pledge to bring justice to the victims, their families, and to every Indian who believes in peace and humanity.

Karnataka joins the nation in expressing unwavering solidarity with our forces. We are proud of your valour, sacrifice, and unflinching commitment to protect our sovereignty.

Terror has no place in our land. India will respond with strength and unity. #OperationSindoor”, read the tweet.

It may be recalled that CM Siddaramaiah during his recent visit to Mysuru had said, “There is no inevitability to go to war against Pakistan, as we are against war, being the flag-bearers of peace. Instead, the security should be strengthened, dropping any thoughts of war.” He later retracted the statement.
