Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust, Mysuru, will be premiering a series of four episodes showcasing the compositions of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar under ‘Karnataka Vaggeya Vahini’ presented by Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar, starting from Saturday (Aug. 13).
A great patron of art, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar was proficient in western music. Subsequently he developed deep interest in Karnatak music as well and learnt from the famed Mysuru Vasudevacharya and Venkatagiriyappa. A true art lover, philosopher and ardent follower of ‘Srividya’, Wadiyar has written about 94 krithis in Sanskrit and composed music to them. His works are adored for their uniqueness such as employing many rare ragas for a number of the krithis, use of unblemished poetic language and deep metaphorical connotations of Srividya.
Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar is known for her mellifluous voice, number of scholarly publications on music, innovative activities related to music rendered through ‘Surabhi Gana Kalamandira.’
She did an extensive study on the contributions of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar to Karnatak music, for which she was awarded Ph.D by University of Mysore. Each episode will have the teaching session of a krithi and rendering of the same by her students. Music lovers and students may watch the event which will be premiered at 5 pm tomorrow and in YouTube channel of the Sabha “Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust.”
