KIKS Library roof in dilapidated state: Students stage flash protest, demand basic facilities

September 14, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: The students of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), University of Mysore, staged a sudden protest on Monday demanding proper basic facilities including drinking water for them.

The students, who assembled near the main gate of the Institution, said that KIKS is one of the prestigious institutions of University of Mysore but even basic amenities are not being provided here.

“The roof of the KIKS Library is in a dilapidated condition with mortar and concrete coming off the roof, exposing steel rods. There is water leakage from the roof and students are forced to study in the Library under such conditions. The authorities concerned have not taken any action in this connection,” they complained.

“There is no drinking water facility here. If students and teachers forget to bring drinking water, they are bound to suffer from thirst. There is no separate toilets for students and lecturers, causing problems for students though there is separate toilet for men and women. Even the toilets are not kept clean,” they alleged.

The students called off their protest after an assurance from University Registrar (Administration) Prof. R. Shivappa, who came to the venue of protest, heard students’ problems and offered immediate solution to their problems.

University of Mysore Research Students Association President Nataraj Shivanna, student leaders Pradeep, Ranjita, Poojita, Shivakumar, Maruti, Arun and others participated in the protest.
