Mysore/Mysuru: In an era where internet has taken over, libraries are continuing to play a vital role in knowledge enhancement, said University of Mysore Registrar M.K. Savitha.
She was speaking after inaugurating the prize distribution ceremony of debate competition on ‘Relevance of Libraries in Internet Era’ organised by University of Mysore Central Library as part of National Library Day and 133rd Birth Anniversary celebrations of Padma Shri Dr. S.R. Ranganathan at its auditorium in Manasagangothri, here recently.
“The usage of libraries might have reduced in the present era but one can have knowledge enhancement only through books. Instead of wasting their time on mobile phones, students must return to books to acquire information about their subject of interest,” she added.
On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of debate competition. A.G. Akash of Department of Studies in Political Science won the first prize and was followed by R. Kusuma Bai of Department of Studies in Chemistry and R. Praveen Kumar of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies in second and third positions respectively.
University of Mysore’s former Librarian Dr. C.P. Ramasesh, Department of Systems and General Management, SDM-IMD’s Assistant Professor Dr. M.V. Sunil, University of Mysore Librarian Dr. P. Sarasvathy and others were present.
