Driver lost control over vehicle after he suffered seizures
Mysuru: A lorry collided with an ornamental electrical lamp post after hitting the median on Dewan’s Road this morning. According to the Police, the incident occurred at around 10 am when Raghavendra, the driver of the lorry (KA-09-A-3642), travelling towards Sringar Hotel from Gayathri Bhavan, suddenly suffered seizures.
This caused him to lose control of the vehicle, which rammed into a heritage lamp post installed on the median. The lamp post prevented a potentially disastrous accident, as the lorry stopped immediately upon impact.
Without it, the lorry could have veered into oncoming traffic or hit the shops on the opposite side of the road. The accident disrupted vehicular movement on Dewan’s Road for about half an hour.
Former Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar and Congress leader Rani arrived at the scene, expressing concerns about heavy vehicles being allowed on Dewan’s Road. They questioned Devaraja Traffic Inspector Mamatha, who stated that efforts were being made to restrict heavy vehicles on the road. However, some individuals were allegedly using their influence to bypass these restrictions.
The Police later removed the lorry from the spot and moved it to the Devaraja Traffic Police Station. The owner of the lorry was instructed to repair the damaged lamp post at his expense. The Police also reported that the driver, due to the seizures, was unable to recall the events of the accident.
