Grand Master M.S. Thejkumar of Mysuru, taking part in the Mandya Open (State-level Open chess tournament 2018) at Mandya on Sunday won the title in the Open category with 7 points from seven rounds.
Grand Master Thejkumar finished first and was followed by Kodagu’s A. Augustin with 5.5 points. Sharan Rao (5 points), M.P. Ajith (Mysuru) and N.Rakesh tied with 5 points each and secured the places from third to fifth respectively.
Other Mysuru players, C. Pavan (5 points), L. Vivekananda (5 points), V.P.S. Darshan (4.5 points), K.R. Yashaskara Jois (4.5 points), Vinayak B. Hariwal (4 points), Sharan R. Setty (4 points), Vindya Sridhar (4 points) and Priyanka Narayan (4 points) fared well. In the under-10 section, Kundan D. Gowda, Dhatri Umesh (Mysuru) and M.G. Prameeth (6 points) tied with 6 points each, but on the basis of the tie-break scores finished from one to three in the placings in the final ranking.
