Mayor’s Gold Cup Kabaddi Tournament 2017: Vijaya Bank, Palam (Delhi) bag titles

Excellent play by Dinesh Gowda and Sachin Suvarna helped Vijaya Bank, Bengaluru to register a well earned 36-23 win over Hi-Tech, Chennai and clinch the coveted men’s title and a cash prize of Rs.2 lakh on the concluding day of the Mayor’s Gold Cup Kabaddi Tournament 2017 jointly organised by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Karnataka State Kabaddi Association & Mysuru Zilla Kabaddi Association at the Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium here yesterday.

Hi-Tech, Chennai finished runner-up in the men’s section and took home a cash prize of Rs.1.50 lakh. Central Excise & Customs and Thanjavur, secured Rs.50,000 each.

In the final of the women’s section, Palam, Delhi registered a 24-19 win over Maharashtra Police and took home a cash prize of Rs.1.5 lakh. Maharashtra Police, who finished were richer by Rs. One lakh while  Shanmugham Trust, Coimbatore and B.C. Ramesh Academy, Dharwad finished third and took home a cash prize of Rs.40,000 each.

The prizes to the winners were given away by former India cricketer Javagal Srinath and Mayor M.J. Ravikumar.

Men’s Section

Vijaya Bank (Bengaluru) 2. Hi-Tech (Chennai), 3. Central Excise and Customs, 4. Thanjavur, TN. Best catcher: Rakesh of Hi-Tech, Chennai; Best Raider – Vinay (Customs & Central Excise); All-rounder- Prakash Rai (Vijaya Bank).

Final: Vijaya Bank 36 (Dinesh Gowda 14, Sachin Suvarna 10) bt Hi-Tech, Chennai 23 (Rakesh 8, Alex Pandian 5, Karthik 8).

Women’s Section

Palam (Delhi); 2. Maharashtra Police; 3. SMC,TN; 4. B.C. Ramesh (Dharwad). Best Catcher: Rupali (Mysuru Police); Best Raider: Sathyapriya (SMC, TN); All-rounder: NIS Centre.

Final: Palam, Delhi 24-19 (Mansi 12, Gayathri 10) bt Maharashtra Police (Swetha Rane (8), Aruna Sawant (6)).
