Madikeri: Madikeri Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a sensational infanticide case in Kodagu district, where a minor girl gave birth to a child. The arrested include the mother, grandmother and grandfather of the deceased newborn.

On Oct. 17, a 14-year-old girl secretly gave birth within the jurisdiction of Napoklu Police Station in Madikeri. However, 4 days after the delivery, the newborn went missing from the hospital.

A week later, the baby’s body was discovered in a pit. Initially, it was suspected that the mother might have been involved in the disappearance. But when it appeared that the grandmother might have killed and buried the baby, she claimed the child was never born.

As the investigation progressed, the body’s discovery in the pit led to a murder case being filed against the mother, grandmother and grandfather.

The girl had accused a 13-year-old boy of causing her pregnancy, prompting an FIR against him. However, the boy’s parents demanded a DNA test for the baby. During the investigation, Police began to suspect that the girl’s parents might have been involved in the baby’s death, leading to their arrest and further questioning.
