MLA performs guddali puja for construction of houses to poor

Mysuru: Krishnaraja MLA M.K. Somashekar today performed guddali puja for 25 houses to be constructed for the poor at Ashokapuram here.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that a total of 1,329 houses would be constructed at various localities in city under Rajiv Awaz Yojana (RAY).

Giving the list of number of houses to be constructed, the MLA said that 105 houses would be constructed in Sunnadakeri, 133 in Hosabandikeri, 74 on Basaveshwara Road, 105 in Kurubarahalli, 77 in Jayanagar 9th Cross, 20 on Paparam Street, 798 houses in Ashokapuram and 20 in Chikkaharadanahalli.

He said that the houses would be constructed in two phases with Ashokapuram being first and the rest in second phase.

Stating that each house would be built at a cost of Rs. 4.8 lakh, the MLA said that SC/ST beneficiaries should pay Rs. 48,000, while the Union Government would give Rs. 1.5 lakh, State Government Rs. 1.8 lakh and the Urban Local Body will give its share of Rs. 1.02 lakh.

For others, the Union Government would give Rs. 1.5 lakh, State Government Rs. 1.2 lakh, Urban Local Body Rs. 1.52 lakh and the beneficiaries should put a share of Rs. 58,000.

Somashekar said that the existing houses of the beneficiaries would be demolished and new houses would be constructed in 6-8 months time and added that the tender for construction of houses has been awarded to a Chennai contractor.

Former Mayor Purushotham, former Deputy Mayor V. Shailendra, Slum Board Executive Engineer Manjunath, Assistant Executive Engineer Chandrappa and others were present.
