Mysuru: Mysore Open Forum (MOF) has organised a talk on the book ‘Rama Bhima Soma’ by Srikar Raghavan, Independent Writer and Researcher, on Sunday (Apr. 6) at 10.30 am at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysuru.
Profile: Srikar Raghavan graduated from Manipal Centre for Humanities (MCH) with an M.A in English in 2020. The diversity of courses offered at MCH — from literature to sociology to history to philosophy — granted him a comprehensive grounding in humanities and inspired an interdisciplinary approach towards research.
His interest in literary and social upheavals in Karnataka during the second half of 20th century paved the way towards the book project. He also possesses an intrepid journalistic energy and the current project relies much on field work and interviews. He hopes that the book will emerge to be an engaging and accessible slice of Indian history, especially for English-reading Kannadiga.
The life and times of legends like Kuvempu and Karanth; the fall of Socialism and the rise of Hindu Right; intellectual ruminations of Dr. U.R. Ananthamurthy, D.R. Nagaraj and M.M. Kalburgi; the popular TV serials of T.N. Seetharam; a brief history of Naxalism in Karnataka and glimpses of other complicated legacies of the 1970s’ Left — the book explores a dizzyingly wide sweep of Karnataka’s contemporary history, seeking, above all, to forge new connections and begin fresh conversations. The talk is open to all. [Mob: 94498-19536].
