Mysuru: Senior Musician Dr. Vageesh was conferred ‘Sangeetha Sevanidhi’ award, instituted by JSS Sangeetha Sabha Trust at the valedictory of the 25th Sangeetha Sammelana organised at JSS Womens’ College in Saraswathipuram here on Dec. 6.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangeetha Vidyanidhi S. Shankar said that more musicians should take part in such Sangeetha Sammelanas.
Stressing on the need for understanding the importance of music, literature and culture, he highlighted the need for carrying forward our rich music for future generations as well.
Observing that achieving success in music is not easy, he said that Gurukula System of Education was best suited for learning music.
Underlining the need for reading books on music legends and greats, Shankar opined that the economic status of musicians was much better these days when compared to decades ago.
Bemoaning that with passage of time, music seems to be losing its way, he emphasised on the need for musicians to practice yoga and spirituality in order to gain mastery over the art.
Asserting that concentration and dedication was very vital for gaining mastery in music, he lauded the contribution of Vidwan Vageesh, who has won many other awards such as Karnataka Kalashri, Sangeetha Saraswathi, Naada Vidya Bhoopathi and Gayaka Ratna among others.
Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji graced the occasion. Sangeetha Sevanidhi K.V. Murthy and others were present.
Vipanchi-Mahanti presented a dual music concert and musicians Prithvi Bhaskar and Pavan Madhav Masur gave a performance.
