Mysore District Parents Association observes World Disability Day

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore District Parents Association for Empowering Developmentally Disabled (MDPAEDD) observed World Disability Day at Namana Kalamantapa in city recently, providing a vibrant platform for persons with intellectual disabilities to showcase their talents.

Speaking on the occasion, JSS Sahana Head Mistress Sarvamangala appreciated the sustained efforts of MDPAEDD in supporting families and empowering persons with disabilities.

She emphasised the importance of creating productive engagement opportunities under initiatives such as Swayam Udyog.

A highlight of the programme was an extraordinary demonstration of cognitive skills by Sandeep Anand, a special employee at Vinyas Innovative Technologies for the past 10 years.

The cultural segment featured inspiring performances that reflected confidence and creativity. Sudesh Pai rendered a soulful Hindi song while Nishanth Nandakumar, another special employee of Vinyas, delighted the gathering with a Hindi song.

Sudesh Pai holds an MA in Karnatak Music and has completed the Tabla Senior Certification.

Dhanush and Aditya presented an impressive yoga display, performing Surya Namaskara                    and other asanas.

Trainees from Daksha Training Programme, a new initiative of MDPAEDD, gave a fancy-dress presentation. The Daksha trainees work under the guidance of Veena, a retired headmistress with a B.Ed. in Special Education.

Parent representative Tara Mohan Kumar stressed the need for greater public awareness and community support for persons with intellectual disabilities.

The programme was attended by President Sudha Balakrishna, Hon. Secretary Jayshree Sudhakar, Past Presidents, Members and supporters of  the Association.

The event concluded with vote of thanks by Nagaraj.
