Seventh GST Day Celebration & Felicitation

Mysore/Mysuru: P.V.N. Suresh Babu, Principal Commissioner of Goods & Services Tax (GST) Commissionerate in Mysuru, stated that it has been seven years since the GST was rolled out, replacing the previous tax system, and many staff members have contributed to its successful implementation through their hard work.

He was speaking during the GST Day celebrations organised at the GST Commissionerate, Mysuru office in Siddarthanagar on Monday.

Principal Commissioner Babu said, “The GST Mysuru Commissionerate is leading in transparent functioning and tax collection, with an estimated 47,000 tax-payers from the districts of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagalur and Shivamogga under its jurisdiction. During the previous financial year 2023-24, Rs. 2,183 crore was collected in taxes from these seven districts.”

Initially, when GST was implemented, tax collection ranged from Rs. 80,000 crore to Rs. 90,000 crore. This has now reached Rs. 1.8 lakh crore to Rs. 2 lakh crore. He said it is a matter of pride that our country is progressing towards becoming the third largest economy, with a 3 trillion Dollar Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and robust GST collection.

GST, implemented through the 10th amendment to the Indian Constitution in 2017, marked a historic moment in the history of independent India. It came into effect on July 1 and has completed seven years.
