National-level Coding Competition ‘CODE IGNITER-2023’ held at GSSSIETW

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Information Science and Engineering,  GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, had organised the 7th National-level Coding Competition ‘CODE IGNITER – 2023’ in association with Computer Society of India, Mysore Chapter, on June 28 in the Seminar Hall of GSSSIETW on KRS Road here.

The event was inaugurated by chief guest P.L. Venkatesh, Principal Consultant, Engineering Services, Infosys Ltd., Mysuru, in the presence of Dr. M. Shivakumar, Principal, GSSSIETW, Dr. K.S. Gururaj, Professor and Head, Department of ISE & Convener, Code Igniter-2023 and  K. Padmaja, Assistant Professor, Department of ISE and Coordinator, Code Igniter-2023, staff and participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh compared the young programmers to the iPhone 20 and complimented the college for hosting the competition. He  also discussed the benefits of GitHub and Jira for the workplace and how to manage time in a foreign time zone in order to adapt to                  the workplace.

He emphasised that students must be familiar with collaborative working, global timing and virtual environments. He added that layoffs differ at the business and IT levels and highlighted that the latest technologies like, ChatGpt and AI will not steal jobs but rather will create more of them. He also advised students to find out ways to get better, innovate and elevate themselves.

Principal Dr. Shivakumar, who also spoke, highlighted the importance of students participating in competition which provides a stimulating environment for their professional growth and advised the students to adapt to the fast changing technologies.

He urged the participants to adopt an inventive mentality, develop their coding abilities in any language, finish their assignments on time, incorporate ideas for many technologies, face many hurdles and always improve. He concluded saying that no syllabus could possibly cover everything instead, it required students to participate in several seminars and contests which serve as testing grounds for preparedness.

Around 250 students from various colleges across the State participated in the Code Debugging, Code Hunt and Pick & Code events.
