National Lok Adalat on July 14

July 9, 2018

2,456 pending litigation cases, 929 pre-litigation cases to be taken up

Mysuru:  The Rashtriya Lok Adalat (National Lok Adalat) will be held in the City Law Courts on July 14.

Announcing this at the Video Conference Hall of the District Law Courts Complex here this morning, Mysuru Principal District and Sessions Judge Suresh L.K. Vantigodi said that the National Lok Adalat will be held under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) as directed by the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA).

Pointing out that the July 14 Lok Adalat proposes for settlement of all civil and compoundable criminal cases, he said that the Lok Adalat is rendering services without any                     expenditure or fees.

He said that 2,456 pending litigation cases and 929 pre-litigation cases in Mysuru District will be taken up at the Lok Adalat.

Stating that over 2,000 such cases were settled in two such previous Lok Adalats, Judge Vantigodi said that there were 99,450 cases — both civil and criminal — pending in Courts across the district.

Noting that there were 20,000 cheque bounce cases in the district, with 15,000 of them in Mysuru taluk alone, he said that individual cases accounted for most number of cases while company cases were less.

Clarifying those criminal cases that attract more than seven years imprisonment does not come under the purview of the Lok Adalat, the Judge said that all those willing to settle their pending cases or pre-litigation cases can approach the DLSA.

Reiterating that the Lok Adalat is rendering services without any expenditure or fees, the Judge said, however, the Court fee if any paid in pending cases will be refunded if the matter is settled through Lok Adalat and no appeal lies against the award passed in Lok Adalat.

Continuing, Judge Vantigodi said that cases such as Bank loan recovery cases, labour disputes, Motor Vehicle Acts and cases, family disputes, atrocity cases, alimony cases and other civil cases and compoundable criminal cases (both pre-litigation and pending litigation cases)  can be settled at the July 14 National Lok Adalat.

With many cases on money lending/ borrowing issues coming up before the Courts, he asked the public not to issue blank cheques while taking loans and advised the public to mention only the exact amount of the loan amount taken while giving the cheque against receipt of loans.

DLSA Member-Secretary and Senior Civil Judge C.G. Mohammed Muzirulla and others   were present.
