Mysore/Mysuru: Teresian College Research Centre (Commerce), in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), had organised a two-day National Workshop on “Statistical Data Analysis Using SPSS” recently.
Dr. P. Paramashivaiah, Senior Professor and Dean, Tumkur University, delivered the inaugural address and highlighted the growing importance of research in today’s academic environment.
Referring to the saying “today’s newspaper becomes tomorrow’s waste paper,” he stressed the need to stay updated and rely on factual, evidence-based information.
He illustrated how experience and research strengthen decision-making, citing examples like Aadhaar and HRMS. He also encouraged participants to use credible data sources and make newspaper reading a regular habit to stay informed.
In his keynote address, Dr. T.A. Binoy, Professor at Central University of Kerala, explained that research empowers individuals to adapt to change, validate existing theories and develop new insights. He emphasised the need for students and researchers to be observant, as meaningful research begins with identifying the right problem.
Dr. Binoy discussed how research helps in recognising societal issues, collecting data, processing it using SPSS and deriving meaningful inferences. He further highlighted the importance of selecting appropriate statistical tools for accurate data analysis and theory development.
Dr. Sr. Rohini, Principal, Teresian College, in her presidential address, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting a strong research culture and enhancing analytical competencies among faculty and students.
Dr. Veena M. D’Almeida, Director of Research; Vivek Charles, IQAC Coordinator and Dr. P. M. Shiva Prasad, Assistant Professor, were present.
