New Delhi: The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to Medical and Dental Courses and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for admission to IITs will take place as scheduled in September, with the Supreme Court on Monday dismissing a petition seeking postponement of exams due to COVID pandemic.
A three-Judge Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Arun Mishra dismissed the plea observing that the career of students cannot be put under jeopardy for long.
The petition filed by eleven students from 11 States contended that the decision to hold JEE (Main) through online mode and NEET through offline mode was arbitrary, whimsical and violative of the fundamental rights of lakhs of students who are appearing for the exams.
The Supreme Court dismissed the petition after Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the National Testing Agency which conducts the exams, submitted before the Court that all safeguards will be taken while holding the exams.
