Mysuru: The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, has granted Tier-1 accreditation to four Undergraduate Programmes at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru for 3 years. The 4 programmes are: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication and Industrial & Production Engineering. NIE is the first Engineering College in Mysuru to get this accreditation in its maiden attempt.
With this, NIE is eligible for the recognition of the programmes by other signatories (including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, US and UK) of the Washington Accord.
Washington Accord, originally signed among six countries in 1989, is an International Agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting Undergraduate engineering degree programmes. It recognises substantial equivalency of programmes accredited by those bodies. At present 18 countries, including India, are signatories to Washington Accord, which encourages and facilitates the mobility of engineering graduates at international level.
Tier-1 accreditation system is for engineering programmes of autonomous institutions and Universities including IITs, NITs and Central / State / Pvt. Universities. The Experts’ Team from NBA visited NIE during Feb. 2017 to evaluate and validate the assessment of the programmes, according to a press release from Dr. G.L.Shekar, Principal, NIE.
