NSS Day and NSS Awards Ceremony

Mysuru; The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units of JSS University, Mysuru, had organised NSS Day on Oct.7 with a theme ‘Hand Washing and Disease Prevention’ as part of  Swachhta Hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) of Government of India.

A NSS rally was held to create awareness about hand sanitisation and disease prevention in which more than 350 NSS volunteers, NSS Officers and faculty members of Department of Water and Health (Faculty of Life Sciences), Department  of Health System Management Studies, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Dental College & Hospital and JSS Medical College participated.

The rally was inaugurated by Dr. P.A. Kushalappa, Director (Academics), JSS University at JSS University campus in the presence of NSS Program Coordinator Dr. K.L. Krishna, NSS Program Officers and Principals, Chairman, HoD and Coordinators of all NSS Units.  

During the rally, covering Bannimantap industrial area, Vande Mataram and Yellammanagar slums, the student volunteers interacted with the local people and slum-dwellers and explained the importance of hand-washing in disease prevention. The activity was Coordinated by JSS University Department NSS Officer Dr. Raghu Ram Achar in association with other NSS Unit Officers.

Followed by the rally, NSS Day celebration was organised at Sri Rajendra auditorium, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K.M. Veeraiah, Director, JSS Karnataka Open School, Mysuru by watering a plant. Dr. P.A. Kushalappa presided. Prof G.K. Chandrashekarappa, Chairman, Department of Water and Health, briefed about the importance of NSS and called upon the youths to participate actively in NSS activities.

Dr. K.L. Krishna, NSS Programme Coordinator, announced the prize winners of UGC Swachhta Pakhwada programme competitions held in Sept. 2017. All the winners were given certificate and memento.

On the occasion, JSS University’s NSS Best Volunteers Awards were given. Ramaswamy Sundararajan of JSS Medical College, K.N. Shabareesh of JSS Dental College, Mumammed Bishir of JSS College of Pharmacy, S. Gopi of JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, D.R. Yogendra of JSS University were given Best NSS Volunteer Awards for 2016-17.

In his Presidential address, Dr. Kushalappa appreciated the work of NSS volunteers.

Dr. T.M. Pramod Kumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy,  Dr. Dattatri Nagesha, Head, Faculty of Life Sciences, were  present.

Dr. H.K. Mamatha, Coordinator, Department of Health System Management Studies, welcomed. Dr. Raghu Ram Achar proposed a vote of thanks.
