Nypunya school students exhibit their farming skills

Mysore/Mysuru: Students of the city’s Nypunya School of Excellence, Kanakadasanagar (Dattagalli), exhibited their farming skills as Ambassadors of farming, in the school campus on Saturday.

Harita Education Solution, an Agricultural start-up, had taught the school students on growing a variety of vegetables, grains such as Ragi, Maize and Jowar and other cereal crops.

Upon getting trained, the students grew several crops and displayed the yield in the school campus, which mesmerised the parents and the visitors alike.

Joint Director of Horticulture Manjunath Angadi, who spoke after inaugurating the programme, called upon educational Institutions to incorporate agricultural activities along with academics in the school curriculum.

Lauding the Nypunya School students for showing interest in learning farming methods, he said that the students have displayed their farming skills by growing a variety of crops and also reaping a good yield. At the same time, the students have also sent a message to the society that farming is also a way for achievement, he added.

Mysuru Akashavani Co-ordinator Keshava Murthy, in his address, said that the world is facing a food crisis right now and hence it is necessary to make the present generation ready to face the challenges in food security and farming sector. Expressing concern that with rising pollution, the population may have to face quality air crisis everywhere in the world, he stressed on the need for making children understand the importance of preserving nature, ecology and environment.

The event also featured an exhibition on Apiculture (Bee keeping), display of farmer-friendly insects and flies, compost manufacture, insects and pests eating plants etc.

School Chairman Raghu R. Kautilya, Principal M.N. Mahendra, faculty Yogitha, Shilpa and Reshma Rai, Agricultural Scientist Dr. C.A. Deepak and others were present.
