M.M. Hills: The Special Cabinet Meeting of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held here yesterday, has accepted the report submitted by Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission, constituted to conduct a probe into the Oxygen (O2) tragedy that claimed the lives of 36 persons during COVID-19 pandemic in the district.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who announced the decision of the Cabinet meeting said, as per the assurances made during the tragic incident, the next of the kin of some of the deceased have been provided jobs, albeit a temporary jobs on outsource basis. While the permanent solutions will be chalked out to provide jobs to the remaining persons, with legal hurdles stymying their employment chances. The educational qualification and other criterion for job are being verified on case-by-case basis.
“It is the priority of the Government to render justice to the families of the victims and the action to be taken on the second report submitted by Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission shall be decided in the next Cabinet meeting. The issues related to providing jobs for the remaining dependents of oxygen tragedy will be discussed during the meeting,” said D.K. Shivakumar.
