Online fraud: Women cheated of over Rs. 2.5 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, online fraudsters have cheated two women of Rs. 2,58,915.

In the first incident, Druthi, a resident of Siddarthanagar, is the woman, who has been cheated.

The fraudster, who got himself introduced to Druthi on WhatsApp, lured Druthi to invest money promising commission, following which Druthi invested a total sum of Rs. 90,915. But she neither received the commission nor got back her invested money, thus getting cheated.

In the second case, Parvathi, a resident of Raghavendranagar here, received a message on her WhatsApp number, where the person introduced himself as Dr. George and had stated that he was giving away gifts for which she has to pay taxes. Believing him, Parvathi transferred a total of Rs. 1,68,000 in two stages but did not receive the gift.

Both the cases have been registered at city’s CEN  Police Station.
